Courtney has been playing the violin since 3rd grade (almost 30 years!) and has been in love with it ever since. She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and earned her B.S. in Music Education, with a concentration in violin, in 2008. She completed her M.M.Ed (Master's of Music Education) online through Boston University in 2012.
Courtney directed the elementary, middle, and high school orchestra program at Northern York County School District in Dillsburg, PA for 11 school years. While there, she had students attend PMEA festivals at the District and Regional levels, as well as had many students in Hershey Festival Strings, Harrisburg Symphony Junior and Youth Orchestras, and York Youth Symphony.
In June 2019, Courtney left Northern and began teaching private violin and viola lessons out of her home in Enola, PA. She loves that teaching in a one-on-one setting offers the opportunity to hone in on a student's specific skill set and need, and that she is able to tailor each lesson for each individual student. She currently has students in Harrisburg Symphony Junior Youth Orchestra, and Dauphin County Orchestra. She teaches students of all ages (Kindergarten through adult) and all ability levels.
In addition to teaching private lessons, Courtney also helps to teach 5th and 6th grade violin lessons at Covenant Christian Academy in Harrisburg. She is a violinist in the West Shore Symphony Orchestra, she plays the violin on her church's worship team regularly, and she can be found playing the violin or viola for several musical pit orchestras in the area. She has regularly performed in quartets and trios for weddings and other special events. She believes that being an active performer helps in keeping her teaching skills as sharp as possible.
When Courtney is not teaching or playing her violin or viola, she can be found taking care of her son Logan, spending time with her husband, playing with her dog Archie, watching reruns of Friends, practicing yoga, putting together puzzles, or being involved in her church community.
