I am Courtney Martin, a violinist/violist residing in Enola, PA. I am a native of the area, having graduated from Cedar Cliff High School in 2004. I received my Bachelor of Science in Music Education, with a concentration on violin, in 2008 from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. I studied privately with Dr. Stanley Chepaitis during my time at IUP. I received a Masters of Music Education from Boston University in 2012.
I have been the orchestra director for the Northern York County School District, in Dillsburg PA, since 2008. During my tenure there, I have directed the Elementary, Middle, and High school orchestras (grades 4-12); I have organized and taught small group and individual lessons to students of all abilities on the violin, viola, cello, and string bass; I have directed two select ensembles at the middle and the high school levels; I have directed the string quartet at the high school; and I have attended many PMEA Orchestra festivals, both at the high school and elementary/middle school level. I have provided many opportunities for my students to learn and grow as musicians, both inside the school community, and in their own communities. I hope to be able to do the same for any prospective private students. I will work with you, as an individual, to come up with a teaching goal and a plan and help to keep you interested and motivated as a student musician as you strive to succeed and improve on your chosen instrument.
In addition to teaching, I am also a freelance musician. I am proficient on both the violin and viola, and currently serve as a violinist in the West Shore Symphony Orchestra. I have played in various pit orchestras, both for high schools and community theaters. I also perform in small groups for weddings and other special events, and I play for various church productions and engagements as needed. I would be happy to play for your next musical, wedding, church program, or other special event.
